Our Story

Founded during the Great Depression, First American Bank has a proven history of flourishing even during economic adversity. In 2009, the bank celebrated 75 years helping their customers succeed.

First American Bank was chartered in Fort Dodge, Iowa, in 1934, and served the needs of that community for some 65 years before embarking on considerable growth to serve many other Iowa communities statewide.

In 2005, the bank purchased Pelican National Bank of Naples, Florida. Today, First American Bank operates from three southwest Florida communities in Lee and Collier counties: Naples, Ft. Myers and Cape Coral.

A new Naples facility opened in February 2009 at the intersection of Pine Ridge and Livingston. Pine Ridge now serves as First American Bank’s Florida headquarters.

First American Bank commercial and small business banking services are delivered by bankers with the experience to understand our clients’ business plans and personal banking needs. Decisions are made locally, with a sense of urgency that matches the mindset of the many business owners we serve.

Private Wealth Management - Full-time

Provides private banking services to financial institution customers by performing the following duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Evaluates needs of current and potential private banking customers and coordinates sale and delivery of services. 
  • Actively prospects current and potential clients for opportunities to provide Wealth Management services.  Profiles and refers customers to Wealth Advisors for sales assistance as needed.
  • Actively supports sales of Wealth Management services to current and potential clients by introducing prospects to Wealth Management services, joint calling with Wealth Advisors and assisting with sales process.
  • Supports credit needs of Wealth Management/Private Banking clients based upon referrals from Wealth Advisors and bank staff.
  • Coordinates involvement of appropriate Wealth Management staff in ongoing client relationship with respect to Wealth Management services being provided.
  • Prepares and compiles customer application and information to open new accounts.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of documentation on all client products, services and accounts.
  • Analyzes loan markets to develop prospects for Private Banking.
  • Interviews applicants and requests specified information for loan and other product applications.  Prepares applications and facilitates loan process to closure.
  • Responsible for obtaining proper collateral documentation.
  • Analyzes applicant financial status, credit, and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan or submits application to credit analyst for verification and recommendation.
  • Approves loan within specified limits or refers loan for appropriate approval.
  • Provides high quality ongoing relationship management with current customers to maintain goodwill and gain additional business.
  • Informs and advises customers of status or enhancements to current account productivity, and suggests resolution on account disputes and other account activity.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and requests regarding products and services.
  • Coordinates and assists back office personnel in resolving customer/account problems and issues.
  • Promotes and cross-sells other products and services as appropriate to customer requirements.
  • Provides data to support marketing and sales promotion programs.
  • Generates new business to assist in meeting establishment profitability goals.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college; plus two or more years related experience in private banking or in the financial service industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Financial Services Representative (Teller)

Community Banking - Full-time & Part-time

Receives and pays out money, and keeps records of money and negotiable instruments involved in financial transactions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

      • Seek to exceed customer service expectations.
      • Receives checks and cash for deposit, verifies amount, and examines checks for endorsements.
      • Cashes checks and pays out money after verification of signatures and customer balances. 
      • Enters customers' transactions into computer to record transactions, and issues computer generated receipts. 
      • Places holds on accounts for uncollected funds. 
      • Orders daily supply of cash, and counts incoming cash. 
      • Balances currency, coin, and checks in cash drawer at end of shift and compares totaled amounts with data displayed on computer screen. 
      • Explains, promotes, or sells products or services such as cashier's checks. 
      • Removes deposits from, and counts and balances cash in, automated teller machines and night depository. 
      • Accepts loan payments.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

   

Marketing Coordinator

Administration - Full-time

Coordinates marketing activities and administers marketing production and support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Under the direction of the Senior Administrator and CEO/President, implements marketing plans and objectives, including but not limited to, branding, advertising, company events and promotional materials.
  • Provides administrative support for marketing initiatives, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for all locations and departments on marketing activities.
  • Tracks all marketing production orders to ensure service standards are met.
  • Responsible for bank business cards, stationery orders and production.
  • Monitors and maintains marketing inventory and tracks usage for budget.
  • Responsible for technical writing on press releases and other corporate communications, as requested.
  • Provides creative input on design projects. 
  • Coordinates involvement in community organizations and events.
  • Creates and updates marketing materials and information available on the intranet. 
  • Responsible for tracking all invoices and expenses against budget.
  • Provides additional administrative support as assigned.

Education/Experience: Associate’s degree from 2 year college or university; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Extensive experience with Word, Excel,  PowerPoint, and Outlook  are required.  Individual must be able to use Publisher and navigate Internet-based applications. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign & Premiere Pro) a plus. Individual must be able to keyboard at least 60 words per minute. Previous experience or marketing coursework preferred.

 

Mortgage Originator

Home Mortgage Department – Full-time

Originates or denies mortgage loans. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

      • Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet establishment and government standards.
      • Evaluates acceptability of loan to investors that buy real estate loans on secondary mortgage markets and ensures it meets product requirements.
      • Determines terms and acceptability of risk of prospective business. 
      • Exemplifies outstanding sales ability. 
      • Sets prices for prospective mortgage loan applicants. 
      • Communicates loan status or requests additional information from customer. 
      • Closes loan with customer and forwards all documentation to centralized loan processing. 
      • Understands and follows Fair Credit, Regulation Z, ECOA, HUMDA regulations.
      • Maintains database on new and existing business. 

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  

Personal Banking Representative I

Community Banking – Full-time

This position serves the bank’s retail banking customer base with financial products and services.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned: 

      • Prepares and compiles new customer application and information to open new banking deposit accounts and IRAs.  
      • Participates in bank strategies to generate deposit deposits in accordance with bank goals. 
      • Evaluates needs of potential retail customers and offers appropriate financial products and services.
      • Promotes and cross-sells other banking, mortgage, and wealth management products and services as appropriate to customer requirements. 
      • Keeps clients informed of status or enhancements to account, and works to resolve any account issues. 
      • Responds in a timely, professional, and confidential manner to client account inquiries and questions. 
      • Proactively addresses account risk management issues and negative account activity.  
      • Responsible for compliant account opening process for deposit accounts, including complete client on-boarding experience. 
      • Provides ongoing service to current customers to build goodwill and gain additional business. 
      • Participates in bank sales planning tactics to drive new business. 
      • Keeps account holders informed of any issues with account.
      • Addresses any negative account activity in a professional and proactive manner.

Education/Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; plus six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, experience, and sales ability. 

  

Vice President or Senior Vice President, Community Banking

Community Banking - Full-time

Responsible for the development, management, and retention of commercial and agricultural banking relationships with First American Bank customers .

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

      • Actively and proactively prospects current and potential commercial and agricultural banking clients for opportunities to provide deposit, loan or other financial products and services, with an emphasis on lending in the areas of commercial & industrial, commercial real estate, 1 – 4 family portfolio residential and residential construction (single family and/or multi-family).  Cross-sells other establishment products and services as appropriate based on client suitability.
      • Ability to interact with and analyze the needs of commercial and agricultural banking customers.  Develops strategies to meet the credit and investment needs of these individuals by selling First American Bank products directly or through referrals to other areas of the bank.
      • Develops and implements sales plans to meet goals. Develops strategies for maintaining and further expanding existing accounts.
      • Compiles loan package and facilitates negotiation of loan structure with applicant, including fees, loan repayment options, and other credit terms.  Approves loan within specified limits or refers loan to loan committee for approval.  Ensures loan agreements are complete and accurate according to policy.  Assures timely loan closing and funding activities.
      • Provides the highest level of personal service to customers.
      • Sells products/services and manages client relationships in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and bank/broker-dealer policies.
      • Informs and advises customers of status or enhancements to current account productivity, and suggests resolution on account disputes and other account activity.
      • Serves as the primary relationship manager for customers as they are developed.  Assists customers in analyzing problems and proposing solutions.  Responds promptly to issues, questions or concerns.  Coordinates the involvement of appropriate bank staff in customer relationship.
      • Seeks out opportunities for generating new fee income using a variety of referral sources.
      • Actively seeks involvement in the overall growth of the entire bank through proactive involvement in all bank activities.  Actively involved in the community as a representative of First American Bank in civic and community functions.
      • Makes recommendations to improve processes and procedures.

Education/Experience:

VP:  Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; plus 5 or more years of commercial banking experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Previous portfolio lending or construction loan experience preferred.

SVP:  Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; plus 10 or more years of commercial banking experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Previous portfolio lending or construction loan experience preferred.

 

Vice President, Senior Private Banking Officer

Community Banking - Full-time
