Company History

First American Bank was chartered in Fort Dodge, Iowa, in 1934, and served the needs of that community for some 65 years before embarking on an expansion program and appointing a management team that continues in place today. In 1999, First American Bank opened a Sioux City office, followed by the opening of a Des Moines area bank, in Clive, the next year. In 2004, Ankeny and Iowa City temporary locations were opened. The Ankeny bank opened its permanent state of the art banking facility in May, 2006, and Iowa City is slated to open in late 2007.

Since that time, by acquisition, internal growth and new office development, First American has expanded operations to include 16 Iowa banking offices.

In 2005, the bank opened a loan production office in Naples, Florida, and in April 2006 purchased Pelican National Bank of Naples, Florida. Today, First American Bank operates from five southwest Florida communities in Lee and Collier counties: Naples, Bonita Springs, Ft. Myers, Ft. Myers Beach, and Cape Coral.

First American Bank commercial and small business banking services are delivered by bankers with the experience to understand our clients’ business plans and personal banking needs. Decisions are made locally, with a sense of urgency that matches the mindset of the many business owners we serve.

We are proud to offer the in-depth resources of larger regional and national banks, yet we deliver our services through a statewide network of community banks that recognize our customers on a personal basis.

Our ability to personally know our customer is a key element to the customer service we are determined to provide. Increasingly, this recognition is integral to the security of our customers as well. When we recognize by face and usually by name those who bank with us regularly, we are more likely to know banking patterns and can recognize when “things aren’t quite right”. This helps us not only provide great service, but allows us to protect our customers from many types of fraud, scams, and identity theft.
